Aztlan Snacks makes handcrafted snacks built around amaranth, an ancient grain the founder grew up eating with family in Mexico. After spending years frustrated by snacks that were overpriced, bland, or packed with ingredients he couldn't pronounce — all while fueling his outdoor adventures in Utah — he set out to build something better: gluten-free, dairy-free, whole-grain, plant-based fuel that actually tastes good.
The identity was built to stand apart from the muted, crunchy-granola look that dominates the healthy-snack aisle — hence the bold, saturated color palette that refuses to blend in. The mark draws from Mesoamerican art and depicts an eagle, a direct nod to the brand's name: in Aztec mythology, an eagle guided the Mexica people from their ancestral homeland of Aztlan to found their empire, becoming a lasting symbol of power, freedom, and destiny — the same eagle still perched on a cactus at the center of the Mexican flag today. The typography was built to match that spirit: sturdy enough to hold its own on a shelf, with enough organic warmth to feel handmade rather than corporate.
