About Wrangell, Alaska
The City & Borough of Wrangell needed one identity that could speak for the whole municipal government while giving each of its departments a clear place within it. The project covered the primary municipal logo along with sub-brands for four divisions — the Irene Ingle Public Library, Parks & Recreation, Ports & Harbors, and the Nolan Center — each with its own full logo suite.
The mark is built around Elephant Nose Mountain, the landmark that watches over town, with an eagle in flight above it, inspired by the eagles that are part of everyday life in Wrangell. The palette is rooted in place, too: the garnet red comes from the garnets the area is known for, and the red, white, and navy pairing draws on traditional Tlingit artwork. Every division shares the same wordmark and color scheme and only the mark changes, so a library card and a harbor sign still read as part of one city.
